Anil Kumble criticizes New Zealand’s approach to handling Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan

Anil Kumble said that New Zealand should have prepared better against Rishabh Pant and Sarfaraz Khan as several Kiwis players have played against or with them in the Indian Premier League 2024. The duo batted well on day 4 of the contest and helped India set a target of 107 runs for the visiting team.

While Sarfaraz Khan scored 150 runs, the southpaw amassed 99 runs. When they were at the crease, it looked like India would end up winning the contest despite getting dismissed for 46 runs in the first innings, but Tom Latham took a new ball, and the rest is history.

The hosts couldn’t handle the pacers of New Zealand, and from 403/3, they were dismissed for 462 runs.

Sarafarz was included in the Playing XI after Shubamn Gill was ruled out due to a stiff neck. He was dismissed for a duck in the first innings and contributed big in the second chance. Pant, who managed 20, improved his performance in the second essay.

“Both Rishabh and Sarfaraz were magnificent with the bat. They played shots against the Kiwi bowlers. I feel the visitors missed the trick by not targeting the weak areas of the batters. Several New Zealand players know them from the IPL days. I think they failed to pass on that knowledge to the bowlers,” Anil Kumble said on JioCinema.

Rachin Ravindra, Tim Southee, Glenn Phillips, Devon Conway, and Daryl Mitchell have played in the cash-rich league.
