Veteran filmmaker Anil Sharma, best known for his iconic blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, is back with a heart-touching family drama film Vanvas. Starring Nana Patekar, Utkarsh Sharma and Simrat Kaur, the film is a departure from Sharma's signature high-octane action films with a deeply personal story. Releasing on December 20, 2024, Vanvas reflects Sharma's evolving creative vision.
In a recent interview with Times Now, Sharma opened up about his inspiration behind Vanvas. “After the huge success of Gadar 2, I felt like making something different – something that is close to my heart. Exile is that film. It's a gift to the audience, but also to me,” he shared.
The filmmaker revealed that the idea of Vanvas had been in the works for some time. A crucial moment came when Nana Patekar approached Sharma questioning his next move. Sharma said, “Nana sir asked, 'Will you make another big action film now or this?' I knew immediately that I wanted to make an exile with them. We had discussed this during Gadar 2.” For Sharma, Vanvas is more than just another project – it is a reflective piece of storytelling.
He said, “Some films like Gadar you make for the public. But sometimes you create something like exile for your soul. It is very personal.” The film has touched the hearts of the audience, receiving widespread praise for its emotional depth and stellar acting. Sharma expressed his gratitude for the positive response: “Seeing people connect with Vanvas gives me great joy. “It’s validation of the story I wanted to tell.” Vanvas, backed by Zee Studios, continues the successful collaboration between the studio and Sharma after the blockbuster hits Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Gadar 2.
