Animated Firefly reboot in the works

The 2002 space Western drama Firefly is set to receive an animated reboot, with Nathan Fillion, who led the series, serving as its producer.

Fillion, along with his Firefly costars at the Awesome Con event, took to his social media to announce that his banner Collision33, in partnership with 20th Television Animation, is developing the project. ShadowMachine, the Oscar-winning animation studio, has developed early concept art for the series. With the script written already, writer-producer couple Tara Butters and Marc Guggenheim are set to serve as showrunners.

The animation series would be set in the timeline between the original 2002 series and the 2005 feature film continuation, Serenity. The original series, created by Joss Whedon, also starred Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Ron Glass, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher, and Summer Glau.

The show revolves around the lives of a group of people, some of whom are on the losing side of a civil war. They struggle to make a living on the fringes as the United States and China, the last surviving superpowers, united to form a central federal government, called the Alliance.
