Ankara NATO Summit: In Trump’s presence, Ukraine will get a big military package, there will be a ‘rocky resolution’ on collective security

Amidst the horrors of the Ukraine war and increasing tension on the Iran-Lebanon border, the world’s eyes are on the NATO summit to be held next week. The participation of US President Donald Trump in this high-profile summit organized in Turkey’s capital Ankara is making it even more important. The main focus of the conference is to pass a new ‘rock-solid resolution’ on ‘collective security’, which will give new strength to the solidarity of the member countries. The draft of this proposal has already been prepared at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, on which all the member countries will put their seal of approval. Preparation of big military help to Ukraine for 2027. This summit is bringing a new hope for Ukraine struggling against Russia. NATO member states have already pledged to provide $80 billion in military aid to Ukraine in 2026. Now, there is a strong possibility that the same amount of additional military assistance, i.e. $80 billion, will be announced in this conference for 2027 also. This military package is considered extremely important to further strengthen Ukraine’s defense preparedness. Trump’s stance and challenges to the alliance The world is keeping an eye on this conference because US President Donald Trump has always had a strict attitude towards NATO countries regarding defense spending. Based on his past experiences, Trump has been pressurizing allied countries not to increase defense budgets. He has also expressed his displeasure over the non-cooperation of NATO countries on the Iran issue. It remains to be seen what Trump’s stand will be in this conference to be held in Ankara on July 7 and 8. Also, due to the increasing tension between Turkey and Israel, hosting this Muslim-majority NATO member country also makes this summit extremely sensitive.
