The world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer BYD Auto is now preparing to launch its new small electric car in Japan. The name of this car is BYD Racco and ‘Racco’ means sea creature ‘Sea Otter’. This car is specially designed in a compact size keeping in mind the cramped and congested cities of Japan. The model is believed to be a direct competitor to the likes of Honda and Nissan Motor Corporation as there is a huge demand for small cars in Japan.

Small size, but spacious

The length of the BYD Racco is around 3,395 mm, which is kept as per Kei-Car regulations in Japan. With a boxy design on the outside, this car offers good space for the occupants due to its height. The advantage of the small size is that it is easy to drive and park in city traffic. This car can be very convenient for daily use.

Premium interior based on ocean theme

The interior of this car is based on ‘ocean theme’. The cabin design is clean, modern and attractive. A large floating touchscreen is provided in the center of the dashboard through which most of the features can be controlled. The interior feels premium despite the affordable price. The seats and dashboard are designed to provide a comfortable experience.

Two battery options and fast charging

The BYD Racco will be available with two battery pack options. The 20 kWh battery can provide a range of around 180 to 200 km once fully charged, which is sufficient for city use. A 30 kWh battery can provide a range of around 300 km. This car supports 100 kW DC fast charging, so the battery can be charged in less time.

Price and competition

The starting price of this car in Japan can be around 25 lakh Japanese yen (roughly Rs. 13.5 to 14 lakh). At this price, the car will give tough competition to companies like Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors. BYD is trying to offer an economical and efficient electric car with its advanced battery technology.
