'Another Towering Milestone': Jay Shah Showers Praise on Virat Kohli After Reaching Historic Milestone of 27,000 Runs

BCCI Secretary and ICC Chairman Jay Shah heaped praise on Indian batter Virat Kohli, as the talisman crossed yet another monumental milestone, reaching 27000 runs with his innings on Monday.

Kohli, coming in at No. 5 for India, took the attack to the Bangladesh bowlers as soon as he was in, clobbering them for boundaries at will.

The 35-year-old cricketer reached the milestone in his 535th match (594 innings). Only three other batters—Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Kumar Sangakkara (28,016), and Ricky Ponting (27,483)—have crossed the 27,000-run mark in international cricket so far.

Tendulkar achieved the feat in his 623rd inning, which is a world record. Kohli, on the other hand, has come out to bat 593 times so far.

Upon the batter reaching his historic milestone, Jay Shah took to social media platform X, to congratulate the talisman on his awe-inspiring achievement.

“Another towering milestone in the illustrious career of Virat Kohli as he crosses 27,000 international runs! Your passion, consistency, and hunger to excel are inspiring to the cricketing world. Congratulations @imVkohli, the journey continues to inspire millions,” wrote Shah in his tweet on X.

With two day’s worth of play being washed out at Kanpur, Team India is looking to force a result in the ongoing Test against Bangladesh. Keeping the World Test Championship (WTC) qualification as the top priority, the side has decided to go all-out against the Bangladesh bowling attack.

Kohli being the team player also chipped in with a handy fifty but was dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan soon after. A highlight during the innings was the mix-up between him and Rishabh Pant which saw luck favouring the Indian side as the Bangladesh bowler was not able to hit the stumps.

Kohli, who looked in fine form, unfortunately was bowled over by a low-lying delivery from Shakib Al-Hasan, as the Indian departed for 47, just 3 runs short of a fifty, as India continued to fight on.
