Anushka Sharma lauds Ravichandran Ashwin's legacy
Ravichandran Ashwin was one of the strongest forces of the Indian team during his stint in international cricket and is considered one of the greatest spinners of all time. He was also a part of the team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy, where he bowled the final over in the 2013 final, leading to India's victory.
Ravichandran Ashwin also contributed to Indian cricket with his batting and provided strong support in the batting department in the lower order. Ashwin also played the second pink ball test in the ongoing BGT. He was left out of the team for the third Test of the series, where India struggled in the first innings. However, after the match was managed to be saved after a rain delay, and the match was drawn, Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket and left for India on the same day. With this move, he contradicted captain Rohit Sharma's statement in which he had said that the great spinner would leave just a day after announcing his retirement. Ashwin has taken over 700 wickets in international cricket and over 500 wickets in Tests, making him among the top ten wicket takers in Tests. He has scored more than 4000 runs in international cricket with 6 centuries and 14 half-centuries in Tests. He is second only to India's great spinner Anil Kumble. After Ashwin's departure, Team India now has a reliable player in that position and spin department in the form of Ravindra Jadeja. The coming 2 matches will decide the fate of Team India and its qualification for the WTC.
