Apara Ekadashi Religious Importance: The fast of Ekadashi dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of the world, has special significance in Hindu religion. Which is held twice every month. This time, the fast of Ekadashi Apara or Achala Ekadashi falling in the Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month will be observed tomorrow, 13 May 2026.

According to the Panchang, the Ekadashi tithi of Jyeshtha month will start on 12th May 2026 at 02:52 pm and will continue till 01:29 pm the next day on 13th May 2026. According to Udaya Tithi, the fast of Apara Ekadashi will be observed on 13 May 2026, Wednesday.

  • Breaking the fast of Apara Ekadashi

At the same time, it is auspicious to break the fast of Apara Ekadashi on the next day i.e. Thursday, 14 May 2026, from 05:31 to 08:14 in the morning.

How to do the puja method of Apara Ekadashi fast

  • A devotee observing fast should wake up in the morning before sunrise and take bath and meditate.
  • Now take a resolution to observe the fast and spread a yellow cloth on the post in the north-east corner of the house i.e. in the north-east direction.

  • Now sprinkle pure water and apply yellow sandalwood or saffron tilak to Shri Hari. After this, offer yellow flowers, garland, fruits, sweets and basil.

  • Finally pray to Lord Vishnu to fulfill your wish and seek forgiveness for whatever mistake you have made in the puja.

What are the rules related to Apara Ekadashi fast?

  • To get the virtuous results of fasting on the day of Apara Ekadashi, one should take bath in any water pilgrimage site like Ganga river, holy lake or sea in the morning.
  • This fast is considered incomplete without the worship of Tulsi and its sacred leaves. Therefore, on the day of Ekadashi fast, definitely offer Tulsi Dal to Lord Vishnu.
  • On the day of Ekadashi fast, the seeker should wear yellow clothes. Along with this, more and more yellow things like turmeric, sandalwood, yellow fruits, yellow sweets etc. should be used in worship.
  • The fast of Ekadashi is observed without fasting or eating fruits. Therefore, choose one of the two according to your ability.
  • Rice is not used in this fast. In such a situation, on the day of Ekadashi fast, neither use rice for worship nor for eating.
  • On the day of Ekadashi, consume only satvik things and do not consume tamasic things even by mistake.
  • On this day, donate food, clothes and money etc. to the temple priest or any needy person.
  • People observing fast should not bring any wrong thoughts in their mind, hence in their free time they should chant the mantra of Lord Vishnu &8216;Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya&8217; Or ‘Om Vishnave Namah:’ Chant with Tulsi rosary.
