How does your enthusiasm for acting remain even after such a long career?
Acting is not work for me, it is pleasure. The day I no longer enjoy it, I will retire. Till now every character has given me something new, so even today the same energy remains.

How different is the character of Rajshree Bua in your new show ‘Prathaon Ki Odhe Chunari: Bindani’ from you?
This character is quite different from me. Rajshree Bua is a traditionally minded woman, whose world is limited to family and home. In real life I am modern, happy-go-lucky and funny. Rajasthani dialect and style was new to me, which was a challenge to learn, but it was also fun. Although I have played many gray shaded characters, I have played negative, positive and comedy roles, but I feel that as I am growing up with time, my face is becoming softer. Because of this, I am now getting more strong positive roles.

How was this journey of starting acting at the age of 15?
The four hands of God have always been on my head. I have seen theatre, TV and films, all three changing. TV gave me identity, especially ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. That show gave me worldwide recognition. Along with TV, I also grew. I have done many types of characters, but my favorite genre has been comedy. Even in films like ‘Tees Maar Khan’, ‘Devdas’ and ‘Chupke Chupke’, my characters were quite different and memorable. When Farah Khan chose me, in 2008 I was doing season 2 of ‘Comedy Circus’. Farah came as a guest judge and said that you should be in my next film. He managed everything and I got the role of Akshay Kumar’s mother in ‘Tees Maar Khan’, which is memorable even today.
