Apple working on smart Siri with ChatGPT-like capabilities

Delhi Delhi. Apple is working on a more advanced form of Siri that will be powered by Advanced Large Language Model (LLM). The updated Siri will have better conversational capabilities, something that rivals like ChatGPT and Google's Gemini are already offering users.

To recall, Apple had earlier announced generative AI-based features for iPhones, iPads and Macs. While some features have already been rolled out for Apple device users, other features, including ChatGPT support, are expected to be rolled out in the coming months. In addition to generative AI-based features, the company has also introduced updates to Siri, including personal context understanding, on-screen awareness, in-app actions, and flashing edge lights. Despite these updates, Siri is much less interactive than other generation AI-based assistants, including Gemini.

Now, a report from Bloomberg says Apple plans to bridge this gap by giving Siri advanced LLM capabilities. The new Siri will be able to interact with users in a way more close to Gemini and ChatGPT. It will also give users more granular control over actions in third-party apps.

The report also says that new features will not be announced immediately. Instead, the company plans to take a gradual approach to introducing new features to Siri. The company plans to adopt the same approach that it took in the case of Apple Intelligence, which was announced at WWDC 2024 and started rolling out with the iOS 18.1 update. Apple is reportedly planning to announce an updated Siri, called LLM Siri, with iOS 19, which will arrive sometime in 2025, and will begin rolling out in early spring 2026.

Meanwhile, the iPhone maker is planning to add additional chatbots like Gemini to Apple Intelligence. The idea is to build these advanced AI capabilities in-house and provide third-party capabilities to users, while focusing on privacy.
