During this, Congress leaders attacked the Modi government over inflation, toll tax, increase in prices of LPG cylinders and electricity. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “April 1 has become a day of ‘loot’ for the Modi government and the BJP; rising prices are impacting people’s lives and livelihoods. Every year, price hikes are imposed on Kannada people and people across the country, and the increase in toll tax is counted as a big problem. Since 2019-20, the BJP government has increased the toll tax from Karnataka. Rs 23,000 crore have been recovered, and it is claimed that with the 5 per cent hike from April 1, an additional Rs 250–300 crore will be recovered.”

Meanwhile, Karnataka’s Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said, “Due to many mistakes of the government, people are facing inflation. The central government is waging an inflation war on the common people. The difficulties created due to this war have also created problems for the people. People are struggling because gas is not available. Hotels are not getting gas cylinders. It has also become difficult to get firewood. The price of one cylinder has been increased by ₹ 60.” If we do anything, they are blaming us for this war. Electricity prices have also increased. The central government is waging an inflation war on the common people.”
