Arab country Oman imposed big ban on India. Huge problem started in this state
Recently Oman has stopped issuing permits for import of Indian eggs, which may result in a big blow to the poultry farms of Namakkal region of Tamil Nadu. This problem is further aggravated when recently Qatar also imposed weight restrictions on eggs imported from India.
Issue raised in Rajya Sabha
On December 17, 2024, DMK MP KRN Rajesh Kumar raised this issue in the Rajya Sabha. He requested the Central Government to hold talks with Qatar and Oman, so that poultry farmers and egg exporters can be rescued from this situation.
eggs stranded at sohar port
PV Senthil, a leading egg exporter from Namakkal and general secretary of the Live Stock and Agri-Farmers Trade Association, says the consignment of Indian eggs is stuck at Sohar Port due to Oman's ban, which is estimated to cost Rs 15 crore.
Challenges facing egg traders
Egg exporters say that due to this ban there has been a huge decline in their business. These difficulties have been further compounded by sanctions on major importers such as Qatar and Oman. Oman had stopped the import of Indian eggs since June, due to which exporters are facing difficulties.
Current status of exports
After several meetings in September, Oman started imports, but that too with limited permits. But recently Oman has refused to issue the permit again. According to the National Egg Coordination Committee, 14 million eggs were exported to several countries including Oman, Qatar, Dubai, Muscat, Maldives and Sri Lanka earlier this year, of which 50% were sent to Oman.
