Are Modi and Netanyahu politically unsuccessful?
Bureau Prayagraj-The effect of Iran-America ceasefire is visible in Israel and India. Opposition parties of India and Israel have attacked the Prime Ministers of their respective countries, Netanyahu and Narendra Modi. US President Trump had threatened to destroy Iran but he came to the agreement table. Netanyahu forced America into this war and when Trump announced the ceasefire deal, Netanyahu had no role in it.
PM Modi visited Israel three days before the war was imposed on Iran. This was also Israel’s game. He wanted to show the world that India, Iran’s age-old friend, stands with it today. That means Modi had tacit consent to impose war on Iran. Till date Modi has not condemned the assassination of former Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei. When Pakistan’s role was being talked about in the middle of the war, India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar was calling Pakistan a broker country.
Congress’ communication in-charge and MP Jairam Ramesh wrote on Twitter – The whole world will cautiously welcome the two-week ceasefire implemented in the ongoing conflict in West Asia between the US and Israel on one side and Iran on the other.
The conflict began on February 28 with the targeted killing of the top leadership of the Iranian regime. These incidents started just two days after the completion of Prime Minister Modi’s much talked about visit to Israel. This visit reduced India’s global credibility and reputation. PM Modi did not say anything on the genocide being carried out by Israel in Gaza and its aggressive expansionist policies in the occupied West Bank.
Jairam Ramesh said- Pakistan’s role in brokering a ceasefire is a serious blow to both the substance and style of PM Modi’s highly individualistic diplomacy. The policy of isolating Pakistan and convincing the world that it is a failed state due to its continued support to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has clearly not succeeded. As Dr. Manmohan Singh had done after the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
The fact that a bankrupt economy (of Pakistan), completely dependent on the help of external donors, and in many ways a broken country took on such a role, raises serious questions on PM Modi’s diplomatic strategy and narrative management. He or his team also never explained why Operation Sindoor was suddenly and immediately stopped on 10 May 2025. Which was first announced by the US Secretary of State and for which the US President has taken credit almost a hundred times since then.
The senior Congress leader said- There is a palpable sense of relief everywhere. The Foreign Minister had dismissed Pakistan as a broker. But now the self-proclaimed world leader has been completely exposed. His self-proclaimed 56-inch chest has shrunk. His cowardice is revealed not only by his silence on Israel’s aggression but also on the completely unacceptable and shameful language being used by his close friend sitting in the White House.
