Then in injury time (120+1st minute) Lautaro Martínez scored a goal to make the score 3-1.

After this, Switzerland defeated Algeria 2-0 in the round of 32. Then Switzerland defeated Colombia 4-3 in the penalty shootout and qualified for the quarter-finals for the first time in 72 years.
