Arjun Kapoor diagnosed with mild depression, Hashimoto’s disease: ‘Therapy…’
New Delhi: Actor Arjun Kapoor recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with mild depression and Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune disease that causes the thyroid gland to gradually get destroyed. He opened up about battling with mental health struggles and the disease. The actor was talking to Hollywood Reporter about his latest release film, Singham Again, when he opened up about his mild depression and Hashimoto’s disease.
The actor’s career graph witnessed a downfall due to back-to-back flops including Kuttey, The Lady Killerand I Villian Returns. He made an impressive comeback with his villainous role in Rohit Shetty’s directorial.
Arjun Kapoor opens up about battling mild depression
Arjun Kapoor revealed that he started to seek therapy for his mild depression, adding that there are moments of self-doubt when films don’t work and those moments turn into months and years but you have to fight through it. He also shared that when you doubt yourself, “Negative always sounds louder”. He also recalled that “being a fat kid creates a lot of mental trauma for years, without realising it”.
He revealed that he started to take therapy last year and he has taken responsibility for it as he doesn’t go and talk to people. He also shared that the year has been more “personal” than professional, adding that he stopped enjoying watching films and often wondered, “Will I be able to or will I get a chance?”
He also recalled that he went to a couple of therapists but it didn’t work out and was diagnosed with ‘mild depression at that point of time which is very circumstantial” by the one therapist who allowed him to speak. He also shared that he used to watch YouTube shorts to put himself to sleep.
Arjun Kapoor on battling Hashimoto’s disease
The Ishqzaade actor also opened up about battling an autoimmune disease,m, Hashimoto’s disease since he was 30. He said that he can take a flight and gain weight as his body goes in “distress”. Hashimoto’s disease runs in the family as his sister Anshula Kapoor is also battling the disease and their mother too had it.
