Arjun Kapoor, Jackky Bhagnani, Mudassar Aziz face injuries while shooting in Mumbai
Filming for Arjun Kapoor’s next movie, Mere Husband Ki Biwi, was well underway when a regrettable incident forced it to halt. The Ishaqzaade actor suffered minor injuries when the ceiling fell. The crash also injured his director Mudassar Aziz and co-star Jackky Bhagnani.
The incident happened in Mumbai’s Imperial Palace, Royal Palms, while a song was being filmed. The ancient hall’s set reportedly shook and the ceiling collapsed due to vibrations from the loud music.
The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) representative Ashok Dubey told ETimes that the two-state actor suffered head and elbow injuries. During the incident, one of the photography directors also suffered a broken thumb. Although it was deemed non-critical, a camera assistant also suffered a spinal injury.
Choreographer Vijay Ganguly who was present on the set when the regrettable situation happened, spoke to ETimes about the incident. He remembered that the dance sequence’s first day of filming went smoothly, but the second day took a sharp turn for the worse.
“We were on the monitor when suddenly the ceiling collapsed,” he said.
Ganguly disclosed that they had a “trough” for self-defense and that the ceiling had partially fallen. Even if a few individuals were hurt, it would have been more disastrous if the entire roof had fallen.
“These old locations are often used for shoots, and as production companies, we ensure that safety measures are checked,” he said.
Regarding the issue, Ashok Dubey also wrote to the BMC, the Chief Minister, and the Deputy Chief Minister, emphasizing safety concerns.
“We also raised the issue with the Fire Department, which confirmed that Chitrakoot’s structure has permission only for 90 days, yet it remains standing,” he added.
