Daryl Mitchell hit two consecutive sixes off Arshdeep Singh’s second and third balls. Arshdeep then bowled a wide yorker on the fifth ball. Mitchell flicked the ball straight to Arshdeep. Mitchell was standing slightly outside the crease, causing Arshdeep Singh to try to run him out. However, the ball hit Daryl Mitchell instead of the stumps. Michelle was immediately angry and things heated up. However, Arshdeep Singh did not say anything at that time. Captain Suryakumar Yadav intervened and handled the situation.

After the match, Arshdeep Singh apologized to Daryl Mitchell and clarified that he did not hit him on purpose. Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir feels that Arshdeep Singh should not have apologized to Darryl Mitchell. Gambhir said similar incidents have happened in the past, but in the age of social media, they get more attention.

Gambhir said on ANI’s podcast, “It’s fine. You’re representing your country. You have to be aggressive. If you hit sixes back, what’s wrong with that? No bowler likes to hit two sixes. And I want to see that kind of reaction from my players. There’s nothing wrong with it. Even if he hadn’t said sorry, I wouldn’t have had any problem. He doesn’t need to say sorry.”

Gambhir added, “Yes, it’s good that he has apologised, but there are no friends or enemies on the cricket field. Your job is to represent your country, to win for your country. These things used to happen earlier. But in the age of social media, things escalate, which I think is unnecessary.”
