Maharashtra’s world record in ‘Solar Agriculture Pump’ scheme
Mumbai Maharashtra has created a new world record under the ‘Solar Agriculture Pumps to Demanders’ scheme. Mahavitaran has done a remarkable job of installing 45,911 solar agriculture pumps in a single month. It has been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records.
In the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the world record certificate will be distributed on Friday, December 5, at Auric City ground, Shendra MIDC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Senior officials including Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Non-Conventional Energy Minister Atul Save, Guardian Minister Sanjay Shirsat will be present in the program. It has been claimed by the state government that Maharashtra has become a leader in the entire country with this scheme which provides a complete set of solar panels and agricultural pumps to the farmers just by paying the amount. Under Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana, farmers get 30% grant from the Central Government and 60% grant from the State Government. With this, they get the full amount in just 10% of the amount. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe farmers have to pay only 5% share. Solar panels generate electricity for 25 years, due to which farmers do not have to pay electricity bills during this period. Without depending on traditional electricity, farmers can irrigate at any time of the day as per their convenience.
The state has set a target of installing 15 lakh solar agriculture pumps, which is going to solve the long term problem of ‘paid pending’ electricity connections. Mahavitaran has developed an independent online portal for this scheme. Farmers apply online. After it is approved, farmers pay their share and select the agency to install the pump. Mahavitaran, agency and farmers jointly inspect the site. After that the work order is issued and the pump is installed. The concerned agency will remain responsible for maintenance and repairs in future.
