Magasa’s late goal saved West Ham’s shame, 1-1 draw with Manchester United
Manchester: Manchester United played a 1-1 draw with West Ham United in the match played at Old Trafford on Thursday. They missed the chance to reach fifth place in the Premier League. With this result West Ham still remain in the relegation zone. In the first half, the game of both the teams was very dull and no goals could be scored. Diogo Dalot gave Manchester United the lead by scoring a goal in the 58th minute. But West Ham’s Soungoutu Magasa scored a brilliant equalizer seven minutes from time, prompting boos from the United fans at the final whistle. In the points table, Manchester United are in eighth place with 22 points, while West Ham remains in 18th place with 12 points, two points behind 17th-placed Leeds United.
West Ham controlled the ball well for the first half of the match but were unable to create any real threat. After this United gained momentum. Brian Mbumo’s looping shot from distance was brilliantly headed over the bar by goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. Amad Diallo sent the ball into the box, where Joshua Zirkzee took a well-timed shot, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka made a brilliant save on the goal line. Shortly afterwards, Bruno Fernandes’ shot went wide of the post. Wan-Bissaka, playing against his former club, played a key role in West Ham’s defence, making several crucial tackles and preventing the team from conceding a goal in the first half.
In the second half, Magasa once fired a shot into the side netting, but United finally got the lead in the 58th minute. Casemiro’s shot found the deflection of Dalot and he sent the ball past Areola. The match almost looked headed for a narrow United victory, but Jarrod Bowen’s header was blocked on the goal line by Mazraoui. On the rebound, Magasa equalized with a powerful shot. In the final minutes, both teams looked active in search of the winning goal, but Fernandes missed on two occasions. Due to weak performance, Manchester United ultimately had to be satisfied with a disappointing draw.
