‘Admiral Cup’ hosted by Indian Naval Academy begins

New Delhi. This time the Indian Naval Academy (INA) is hosting the ‘Admirals Cup’ which started from Monday to provide maritime training to naval officers. One of the most prestigious naval sailing championships in the world? 35 countries are participating in this year’s 14th edition. The championship will be formally inaugurated on 9th December, followed by four days of intense competition amidst challenging seas and strong winds.

According to the Navy, the objective of the Admiral Cup, established in 2010, is to promote camaraderie, maritime cooperation and mutual understanding among officer trainees of friendly foreign navies. Over the years the championship has grown into a prestigious global event, attracting top sailing talent from naval academies around the world. Held in a match racing format using the internationally acclaimed ILCA-6 class of sailboats, the competition is known for its tactical acumen, physical toughness and precise sailing skills.

This year’s event will see teams from across a wide geographic region including Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania and the Americas, bringing together diverse maritime cultures on a single competitive platform. The event will not only promote healthy sporting rivalry but will also strengthen professional relationships between the future leadership of the world’s navies. INA’s training eco-system, modern outdoor sailing complex and favorable sailing conditions of the coastal waters of Ezhimala provide an ideal environment for competition of this level.

Apart from the races, the visiting teams will also experience the traditions of the Academy, infrastructure and the ethos of the Indian Navy through a series of cultural exchanges, dialogues and outreach activities. The event will conclude with the closing ceremony on 13 December, where awards will be presented to the best performing teams and outstanding individual sailors. Reflecting the spirit of maritime partnership, the ‘Admiral’s Cup will strengthen India’s commitment to global naval cooperation, professional development of officer trainees and shared values ​​of teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
