Himachali Dish Siddu: If you have not tasted Himachal’s famous ‘Siddhu’ yet, then understand that you are still unaware of its very tasty taste. Siddu is a Himachali dish which people eat with great enthusiasm during the cold season. This recipe is so popular that even Delhiites enjoy it a lot. Apart from being tasty, it is also very healthy because it is cooked in steam and not in oil. Siddu is made in many ways. But today we will tell you about the recipe of Siddu with lentils. Let us know how to make it?
Ingredients for making Siddu:
Wheat flour – 2 cups 250 grams, 1 teaspoon yeast, salt as per taste, Urad dal – half cup, Ghee – 2 or 3 teaspoons, water as required.
Ingredients to prepare stuffing
Urad dal – 1/2 cup, Onion – 1 finely chopped, Green coriander, Asafoetida – a pinch, Turmeric powder – half teaspoon, Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp, Coriander powder 1/2 tsp, Ginger – 1 inch piece, Green chilli – 2-3, Salt as per taste.
How to make Siddu?
Step 1: To make Siddu, first add flour, salt, yeast in a bowl and mix well. Now, add some water to it and knead the dough well. Keep the dough for 1 hour so that it rises well.
Step 2: Now prepare the stuffing. Soak half a cup of urad dal for 7 to 8 hours. After the stipulated time, heat some oil in a pan. Add chopped onion, green chilli, ginger and fennel and fry. Now add coriander leaves and spices and mix well. Now grind all these ingredients with lentils. Now, take out this mixture in a plate and let it cool.
Step 3: Now, to prepare Siddu, make big balls of the kneaded dough. Roll out each ball with a rolling pin and fill it with stuffing. Now seal the dough tightly in Gujiya style.
Fourth Step: You do not have to use oil to cook Siddu. It is steamed so heat water in a steamer. To steam the Siddu, place it in a steamer and cover it and let it cook for 15-20 minutes. After Siddu is cooked, apply ghee or oil and serve it. Serve Siddu with chutney.
