Uproar in Parliament over increasing pollution, demand for action plan for every city
New Delhi. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, raised the issue of pollution in big cities of the country on Friday in the House. He demanded the government to hold a comprehensive discussion on this in Parliament and present a detailed blueprint to deal with pollution in a phased manner in the next 5 to 10 years.
Rahul Gandhi said during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha that people in most of the big cities of our country are now living under a thick blanket of poisonous air. Due to this, the lungs of crores of children are getting damaged and their future is in danger. People are suffering from cancer, the elderly are having breathing problems. This is a serious issue. Both the ruling party and the opposition agree on this. This is not an ideological fight, but this issue is related to the health of our people.
He said that everyone present in this House agrees that this is very dangerous for our people. We are coming to terms with it. It is very important that the government makes a plan to eliminate pollution in our cities. We are unanimous in helping the government in making such a plan.
Rahul Gandhi said that after discussing this topic in the House, the Prime Minister should present a plan for every city, through which work will be done to deal with pollution in a phased manner in the next 5 to 10 years. This is very important for the people of the country. Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of many major cities including the capital New Delhi being affected by air pollution and said that the government should hold a detailed discussion in the Parliament and put forward a plan to deal with this problem. He stressed that he had not come to protest in any way but to support the government.
Rahul Gandhi asked the Center what is the government’s roadmap for the coming 45 years. He asked whether the Central Government can present this scheme on the table of Parliament? He said that most of our cities are currently in the grip of poisonous air. The lungs of millions of children are suffering from many diseases. Their future is in danger. People are suffering from cancer and the elderly are having severe difficulty in breathing.
Rahul Gandhi said that this is a very important issue and he is confident that the Central Government will also agree to it. This is not an ideological issue. All the members of the House will definitely agree that air pollution is harmful for the people and everyone will have to take steps together to deal with it.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju also reacted to Rahul Gandhi’s proposal. He said the government is fully prepared to discuss the issue and the Business Advisory Committee of the Lok Sabha can allocate time for it. Rijiju made it clear that the government wants to discuss and find solutions to all the important issues by taking into consideration the suggestions of the opposition from the very beginning.
