Former Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi becomes the new state president of Bihar BJP

Patna. After the coronation of Nitin Nabin as acting national president and Pankaj Chaudhary as UP BJP president, Bharatiya Janata Party has made a major change at the organizational level in Bihar and appointed six-time MLA from Darbhanga urban area and former Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi as the new president of Bihar state. He is the current MLA from Darbhanga Sadar Assembly seat.

Sanjay Saraogi will now replace the outgoing state president Dr. Dilip Jaiswal. The formal announcement of his appointment as State President has been made through a letter signed by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh. It has been clarified in the letter that this appointment will come into effect with immediate effect.

Sanjay Saraogi defeated Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) candidate Umesh Sahni by 24,593 votes in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. His political journey began in February 2005, when he entered the Assembly for the first time by defeating Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Mohammad Mumtaz from Darbhanga seat by 14,188 votes. After this, in October 2005, he again won by defeating Dr. Madan Mohan Jha of Congress by 24,983 votes.

Sanjay Saraogi also won the assembly elections consecutively in the years 2010, 2015 and 2020. In 2010, he defeated RJD’s Sultan Ahmed by 27,554 votes, while in 2015 and 2020, he defeated RJD candidates Om Prakash Kheria and Amar Nath Gami respectively. He has also served as Revenue and Land Reforms Minister in Nitish Kumar cabinet.

Due to his clean image, administrative experience and strong organizational ability, the party leadership has handed him the command of Bihar BJP. Sanjay Saraogi has been elected MLA from Darbhanga Sadar seat for six consecutive times. His political career started from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has extended hearty congratulations and best wishes to Sanjay Saraogi on being appointed as the state president of BJP. The Chief Minister said that Sanjay Saraogi has served as his cabinet colleague and has been elected as MLA six times. He wished him a successful tenure.
