Prime Minister Modi and King Abdullah will address India-Jordan business conference in Amman today

Amman. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein will address the India-Jordan Business Summit here today. Prominent businessmen from both the countries will participate in the conference. If the weather permits, Prime Minister Modi will also visit the city of Petra along with the Crown Prince of Jordan. Petra is a historical city sharing ancient trade relations with India. Prime Minister Modi arrived in Jordan yesterday on a two-day visit at the invitation of Abdullah II. Shah gave a warm welcome to Modi at Hussainiya Palace. Before the delegation level talks, there was a one-on-one meeting between the two.

Delhi is Amman’s third largest trading partner. India and Jordan have strong economic relations with a trade volume of US$2.8 billion. Jordan is also a major supplier of fertilizers, especially phosphate and potash, to India. There are more than 17,500 Indian expatriates living in Jordan. Most of them are employed in sectors like textiles, construction and manufacturing.

Jordan is the first stop of Prime Minister Modi’s four-day visit to three countries. After completing his tour here, he will also visit Ethiopia and Oman. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on Twitter, “Had fruitful talks with King Abdullah II in Amman. His personal commitment to vibrant India-Jordan relations is commendable. This year, we are celebrating the 75th anniversary of our bilateral diplomatic relations. This milestone will continue to inspire us to move forward with new energy in the times to come.”

“We have shared an eight-point vision document to further deepen relations with Jordan,” he said. It includes – (1) Trade and economic cooperation, (2) Fertilizers and agriculture, (3) Information technology, (4) Healthcare, (5) Infrastructure, (6) Critical and strategic minerals, (7) Civil nuclear cooperation (8) People-to-people relations. Earlier on Monday, when Prime Minister Modi and the King of Jordan met, they reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual importance.

Prime Minister Modi told King Abdullah II, “We will continue our cooperation in areas like trade, fertilizers, digital technology, infrastructure and people-to-people contacts.” Modi said that both the countries have a common and clear vision against terrorism. The Prime Minister appreciated the active and positive role of King Abdullah II on the Gaza issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “You shared very positive ideas to take India-Jordan relations to new heights. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your friendship and deep commitment to India.
