Cold havoc continues in Delhi-UP, 131 flights cancelled, it will rain in these states

New Delhi. At present, fog and cold wave are continuing in North India, especially in Delhi and UP Rajasthan. The weather on 17 December 2025 was mainly dry and cool, with dense fog at many places.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, orange alert was issued in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and southern Uttar Pradesh, while dense fog warning was issued in Delhi, UP, Punjab, Haryana. Life is affected due to cold wave and fog in North India. Travelers should use caution as visibility is low. There is a warning of rain at some places in South India (Tamil Nadu and Kerala).

Dense fog in Delhi and UP
There is a cold wave and dense fog in Delhi. Minimum temperatures are slightly above normal (around 10-15°C), but remain cool. Sky is mainly clear, no rain. Orange alert has been issued regarding cold wave in southern UP.

Rajasthan
Cold wave continues, minimum temperature around 5°C at many places.
Light fog in eastern and western Rajasthan.
Possibility of increasing cold.

Himachal Pradesh
Cold is intense in upper areas, temperature at some places 0-5°C.
Mainly dry weather on 17 December, but fog in higher altitude areas.
Roads slippery after recent snowfall, but not new snowfall.
Light snowfall/rain possible due to arrival of new western disturbance from 17-18 December.

Jammu and Kashmir
Severe cold in Kashmir Valley, minimum temperature at many places -3 to -5°C (like Pulwama, Shopian).
Slight increase in temperature due to cloudy weather, but coolness remains.
Possibility of light snowfall in upper areas till 17-18 December.
Light snowfall/rain possible on 20-21 December before Chillai Kalan (starting from 21 December).
131 flights canceled due to fog, more than 400 delayed
Due to dense fog in the capital and surrounding areas, air services at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were badly affected for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. From late Monday night to early Tuesday, 131 flights had to be canceled and about 400 flights were delayed.

Due to low visibility, more than 15 flights coming from other cities were diverted to nearby cities like Jaipur, Lucknow and Ahmedabad. Visibility on the runway of IGI Airport remained 50 meters from late Monday night to Tuesday morning. Many times it reached zero.
