Nepal’s Gen-Ji movement: Commission to record statements of Oli and author next week

Kathmandu. The commission of inquiry formed to investigate the sabotage and human loss during the Gen-Ji movement that took place on September 8 and 9 in Nepal is preparing to record the statements of senior political leaders next week. With the end of the term approaching, Commission officials met Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Wednesday and requested to extend the deadline. During this, Commission Chairman Gauri Bahadur Karki said that the statements of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak will be taken next week.

He said that the Commission has already recorded the statements of the heads of security agencies. Karki said the statements of all officials representing administrative and security sectors have been completed. Now the Commission will proceed with the process of recording the statements of senior political leaders and preparing the draft report. According to Karki, preparations are underway to call political leaders for statements from Sunday. He also said that the existing time would be insufficient to finalize the report after recording the statements of Oli, the author and other leaders, hence additional time would be required under the revised mandate. Karki informed the Prime Minister that as per the agreement with Gen-G Group, there is still more work to be done on jurisdictional issues, necessitating extension of the deadline.
