TRAI conducted mobile network test in Surat, Jio tops in data speed
New Delhi . Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the report of Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in November on the quality of mobile network services in Surat city of Gujarat and surrounding areas. According to the report, Reliance Jio and Airtel performed better in the performance of voice and data services, while Jio remained at the forefront in terms of 5G and 4G data speed.
According to the Union Communications Ministry, in terms of call success rate in 2G and 3G voice services, Reliance Jio and Vodafone-Idea (Vi) performed 100 per cent, while Airtel’s call success rate was 99.55 per cent and BSNL’s was 92.82 per cent. Drop call rate was zero in Airtel and Vodafone Idea while 0.15 percent dropped calls were recorded in Jio and 4.10 percent in BSNL. Vodafone Idea was the best in call quality standard Mean Opinion Score (MOS) with 4.48 points.
In terms of average download speed in auto-selection mode of data services (5G, 4G, 3G, 2G), Reliance Jio took the first position with 279.36 Mbps. Airtel’s average download speed was 149.11 Mbps, while Vodafone Idea’s was 45.02 Mbps and BSNL’s was 4.83 Mbps. Jio also remained ahead in upload speed with 46.54 Mbps. In terms of latency, the performance of Vodafone Idea and Jio was better than other companies.
The drive test was conducted by the agency appointed by TRAI’s Jaipur regional office in Gujarat license areas (LSAs) between November 3 and 7. During this period, 412 km city drive, 14 hotspot locations and 2 km walk test were conducted. The test covered major commercial and residential areas of Surat city including Diamond Nagar, Udhna, Bhestan, Sachin, Pandesara, Vesu, Adajan, Rander, Katargam, Mota Varachha, New City Light and Parle Point.
