Hadi’s supporters threaten Yunus government with big agitation

Dhaka: After the burial of Usman Hadi, the leader of the militant movement against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in July 2024, his supporters have issued a major threat to the Yunus government. Hadi’s supporters have given a 24-hour ultimatum to the interim government. Hadi was buried in Dhaka on Saturday. A crowd of lakhs of supporters gathered in it. After this violence broke out again in Bangladesh. During this, the supporters told the Yunus government that if all the killers of Hadi were not arrested within 24 hours, there would be a big movement.

Hasina’s rebel surrendered to ashes
In Bangladesh, student leader and Inquilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Usman Hadi was shot on December 12. After this, Hadi died on 18 December during treatment in Singapore. Due to this violence broke out again in Bangladesh. After Hadi’s assassination, political tension in Bangladesh has reached its peak. Hadi was laid to rest on Saturday at the Dhaka University campus, where lakhs of people gathered. Chief advisor to the interim government, Mohammad Yunus, also attended the funeral and paid emotional tribute to Hadi. But during this funeral, the leaders of Inquilab Manch gave a strict ultimatum of 24 hours to the Yunus government. Abdul al-Jaber, a close aide of Hadi from the Inquilab Manch, announced from the forum that the government must publicly clarify within the next 24 hours who is responsible for Hadi’s murder, what investigation has been conducted so far and what steps have been taken to make arrests.

Warning of major demonstrations across the country
Jaber said, “If the government does not do this, we will start a big movement.” Supporters warned that if the killers are not brought to justice, there will be demonstrations and road blockades across the country. Hadi’s namaz-e-janaza was performed at the South Plaza of the National Parliament House. His elder brother Abu Bakr Siddiqui led the funeral prayer. He was later buried next to the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on the Dhaka University campus. Yunus praised Hadi, saying, “Dear Osman Hadi, we have not come to say goodbye to you. You reside in our hearts. As long as Bangladesh exists, you will be a part of it.” Yunus described Hadi as an epitome of humility and dignity and said his teachings would elevate the political culture. He also announced that the government will take responsibility for Hadi’s wife and only child.

Hadi’s identity was created by the radical movement against Sheikh Hasina.
32-year-old Hadi was identified as the leader of the student movement against the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina government in July last year. On December 12, he was shot by masked assailants while campaigning in Dhaka. After the news of Hadi’s death in Singapore, violence broke out across the country, media houses were attacked and minorities were targeted. Some reports claim that the attackers fled, leading to anti-India slogans.

Former minister Mohibul Hasan Chaudhary described Hadi as a fundamentalist and alleged that the Yunus government wanted to postpone elections by inciting violence. Yunus condemned the violence and promised to bring the killers to justice. The government declared state mourning. Experts believe that if this ultimatum is not accepted, new instability may arise in Bangladesh before the February 2026 elections. After this ultimatum, the situation in Bangladesh remains tense. The security forces are on alert.
