Railways increased fares: Long distance travel expensive, ticket prices also increased

New Delhi. Indian Railways has given a big shock to the railway passengers. Just before the New Year, Indian Railways has announced an increase in its fares. Under this announcement of Railways, tickets of General, Mail/Express and AC categories will become expensive.
According to the announcement issued by Indian Railways, these increased fare rates will be implemented from December 26, 2025. However, while giving relief, Railways has clarified that there has been no change in the prices of local trains and Monthly Season Tickets (MST).
The increase in fares from December 26 will affect long distance passengers. Fare was not increased till 215 km in ordinary class. But for distances beyond that, there has been an additional increase of 1 paise per km and for Mail-Express and AC there has been an additional increase of 2 paise per km.
At the same time, passengers traveling non-AC of 500 km will have to pay an additional Rs 10. The estimated revenue benefit from this change will be Rs 600 crore. The decision to increase fares by Railways will directly affect the budget of long distance passengers.
Railways will earn additional income of Rs 600 crore
It is worth noting that the main objective behind the decision is to increase the income of Railways, this increase in fare will bring additional earnings of Rs 600 crore to Indian Railways. This amount will help balance the operating and maintenance expenses of the Railways.
This includes railway station facilities, maintenance of coaches and security arrangements. Over the last ten years, the Railways has significantly expanded its network and operations and has reached even the remotest corners of the country.
