On the other hand, amidst the unrest in the country, Tariq’s return is being seen as a big challenge for security. BNP leaders have discussed arrangements with security officials till midnight to control the crowd around Tariq’s convoy. The entire responsibility of Tariq’s security from the airport to Gulshan has been handed over to Shamsul Islam.

Meanwhile, officials said that from 6 pm today till 6:00 pm tomorrow, only passengers will be allowed to enter the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area. A stage is being prepared in 300 feet area to welcome Tariq. During this time only Tariq will speak. Arrangements have been made for a global broadcast of the speech.

Bangladesh Railways will run 10 special trains to bring BNP supporters to the capital. Its rent will earn approximately 36 lakh taka. Trains will run on routes including Cox’s Bazar-Dhaka, Jamalpur-Mymensingh-Dhaka, Tangail-Dhaka, Bhairab Bazar-Narsingdi-Dhaka, Joydebpur-Dhaka Cantonment, Panchgarh-Dhaka, Khulna-Dhaka, Chatmohar-Dhaka Cantonment, Rajshahi-Dhaka and Jashore-Dhaka. Tariq is likely to visit his father’s grave on December 26 depending on the security situation and later go to Bogra to submit his nomination papers for the 13th parliamentary elections. He will contest from Bogra-6.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Tariq’s daughter Zaima Rehman said that she hopes to contribute to the reconstruction of Bangladesh and directly connect with the people upon her return. Sharing childhood memories with her grandmother Khaleda, she wrote, “Living away from Bangladesh for 17 years has been transformative, but I have never forgotten to water and nurture my roots.” She said that she would join her father’s election campaign.

It is noteworthy that on September 1, 1978, former President of Bangladesh Zia-ur-Rahman had established BNP with the aim of uniting people with nationalist ideology. BNP today is the main rival party of the Awami League, the party of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. BNP President Khaleda is the first woman Prime Minister of the country.
