According to the information received from the family, due to severe cold, all the family members were sleeping in the same room with the fireplace lit. Due to the room being completely closed, there was less oxygen and it was filled with poisonous carbon monoxide gas. By the time one member woke up in the morning and raised an alarm, four people had stopped breathing. Everyone was immediately taken to Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared four dead.

The deceased include Tejash (three), Adhyay (four), Gudiya (seven months) and Kamalavati Devi (seventy), while Amit Kumar, Ameesha and another are in critical condition and are undergoing treatment. As soon as information about the incident was received, SSP Dr. Kumar Ashish, ASP Ram Pukar Singh, Bhagwan Bazar police station incharge and Town police station incharge reached the hospital with their team.

Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem and started investigating the case. The administration has appealed to the people not to use fireplaces or coal inside closed rooms in the cold. Even if you have to light a fireplace, keep the window or ventilation open so that the gas can escape.
