Congress demonstrated by one day hunger strike under MNREGA Bachao Sangram

Jagdalpur. Under the chairmanship of Bastar City District Congress President Sushil Maurya, Congress officials and workers protested against the changes made in the name and structure of MNREGA “Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act”, and held a one-day fast and symbolic protest in front of Sirhasar Nagargudi of the city.

Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee President Deepak Baij said that the change in MNREGA law of Modi government is an anti-worker step. This is an attack on the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and a decision that limits the rights of workers.

He said that under the guise of reforms, the Central Government has abolished the world’s largest employment guarantee scheme, MNREGA, by passing another bill in the Lok Sabha. This is a deliberate attempt to destroy Mahatma Gandhi’s vision and take away the right to work from the poorest Indians.

Till now MNREGA was a guarantee based on the rights granted under Article 21 of the Constitution. The new framework has transformed it into a conditional, centrally controlled scheme.

Deepak Baij said that MNREGA is a living example of Gandhiji’s dream of village swaraj, respect for work and decentralized development. Under the MNREGA Bachao Sangram, today a one-day hunger strike has been carried out as a symbolic protest by Bastar District Congress Committee, City Rural along with all the district headquarters.

During this, in-charge Shakeel Rizvi, Rural District President Premshankar Shukla, senior Congressman Umashankar Shukla, Ramshankar Rao, Hanuman Dwivedi, Additional Shukla, Santosh Yadav, Anwar Khan, Virendra Parihar, Sanjay Panigrahi, Virendra Sahni, Hari Singh, former MLA Rajman Benzam, former Mayor Jatin Jaiswal, Leader of Opposition Rajesh Chaudhary, General Secretary Abhishek Naidu, Zahid Hussain, Altaf Ullah Khan, Block President Santosh Sethia and others were present.
