New Zealand team all-rounder Michael Bracewell out of the tournament
Michael Bracewell: Injuries to players continue in the T20 World Cup 2026. Now the New Zealand team has suffered a big setback in the middle of the tournament. The team’s star all-rounder Michael Bracewell has been ruled out of the entire World Cup due to injury. New Zealand has included 34-year-old all-rounder Cole McConchie in the team as a traveling reserve. However, they have not yet officially included him in the team as a replacement player. McConchie is a spin all-rounder.
Bracewell was injured while playing the match against India
Bracewell suffered a calf injury during the third ODI against India last month. In that match, he scored 28 not out in the first innings, but did not field later. After this he was dropped from the five-match T20I series. According to an NZC release, Bracewell had recovered from that calf injury. But while doing fielding practice, he got injured again in his muscle, due to which he had to be ruled out of the World Cup.
New Zealand Cricket Board issued statement regarding Bracewell
Regarding Michael Bracewell’s injury, New Zealand Cricket said that Bracewell has been scanned and the scan has confirmed the injury and it may take about three weeks for him to be fully fit. Along with this, Bracewell’s replacement has also been announced in New Zealand Cricket. Kiwi team head coach Rob Walter said that we are all sad for Michael. It’s really tough to miss the World Cup and I know how much playing for New Zealand means to him.
McConchie has experience of playing T20 cricket
Canterbury Kings captain McConchie last represented New Zealand in the New Zealand domestic T20 league in April 2024. McConchie has played 133 T20 matches, taking 1,920 runs in batting and 83 wickets in bowling. He has played 12 T-20 international matches for New Zealand. Along with this, he has also played six ODI matches for his country.
New Zealand has won two matches in T20 World Cup 2026
In the T20 World Cup 2026, the New Zealand cricket team has registered a strong victory in both its opening matches. New Zealand defeated Afghanistan by 5 wickets in its first match and UAE by 10 wickets in the second match. Now the Kiwi team has to play a match against the South African cricket team on 14 February. Now it will be interesting to see how the Kiwi team performs in that match.
