Chief Minister reviews Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line projects of the state

Dehradun. While reviewing the proposed and under construction railway projects in the state at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the officials to develop the escape tunnels under construction as parallel roads. In the meeting, he gave detailed guidelines on Tanakpur-Bageshwar and Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail projects.

In the review meeting, the Chief Minister asked to prepare an action plan on the future use of the escape tunnels built in the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line project and also asked to pay attention to the possibility of expanding the rail line from Karnaprayag to Bageshwar. He said that the Central Government should be requested to declare the Tanakpur-Bageshwar Railway Line Project as a national project, so that the construction work can be expedited. Work should also be done on alternative routes of the project and possibilities of connecting Almora-Someshwar area.

The Chief Minister laid special emphasis on the development of markets, self-employment, homestays and other public welfare schemes for the local people around the under-construction railway stations. He said that the villages, towns, religious and tourist places around the proposed railway stations should also be redeveloped, so that facilities are ensured for the passengers coming to Uttarakhand in future.

It was informed in the meeting that 72.5 percent work of Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line project has been completed, in which 95.30 percent work of tunnel construction has been completed. A total of 28 tunnels have been built under the project, which include 16 main tunnels and 12 escape tunnels. Also, various railway stations are being constructed on different themes, which mainly include Shivpuri (Neelkanth Mahadev), Byasi (Maharishi Vedvyas), Devprayag (Samudra Manthan), Karnaprayag (Badrinath Temple) etc.

Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Principal Secretary R.K. were present in the meeting. Sudhanshu, Secretary Brajesh Kumar Sant, Principal Project Manager Himanshu Badoni and other senior officers and railway officials were present through virtual medium.
