Road blocked after death of pregnant woman, road opened after agreement, compensation fixed at Rs 2.15 lakh
Korba. The blockade organized by the villagers after the death of a pregnant woman due to negligence of the driver in Hardibazar area ended at around 12 o’clock on Saturday night. In the presence of the administration and the vehicle owner, an agreement was reached to pay a total immediate compensation of Rs 2 lakh 15 thousand, after which the protest was ended and traffic was restored.
The incident took place near the house of Bholaram Suryavanshi in Mudpar Bazaar area. According to the information, a highway vehicle going towards Budhagan road suddenly turned in the wrong direction and went out of control and entered the house. At that time, pregnant woman Shashi Suryavanshi, who was washing utensils near her house, was hit by the vehicle, due to which she died on the spot. After the accident, the family members and villagers became angry and started protesting by placing the dead body on the road.
Due to the traffic jam, traffic was completely disrupted on both sides. There was a long queue of hundreds of vehicles, due to which the passengers had to face a lot of trouble. Police and administration officials remained on the spot to handle the situation. Area CSP Vimal Pathak, Tehsildar Rajbhanu along with Hardibazar, Kusmunda and Deepka police station in-charges took charge and continuously discussed with the villagers.
After long negotiations, the vehicle owner agreed to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family of the deceased. The administration provided immediate assistance of Rs 15,000 for the last rites. This proposal was accepted by the family members and villagers, after which the blockade was ended late in the night.
The administration has also assured that all possible support will be provided in the process of life insurance claim of the deceased. No decision could be taken on the spot regarding employment or other assistance. Police have started further legal action in the matter.
