CBSE board exams will start from today, new rule of exam twice a year in class 10th will be implemented

New Delhi. The 10th and 12th board examinations of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are starting from 17 February 2026. The first paper of class 10th will be of Mathematics, while for class 12th students, the exam will start with Biotechnology and Short Hand. The board has also issued necessary guidelines and advisories for the candidates.

CBSE has clarified that it will be mandatory for all students to reach the examination center on or before 10 am, so that the examination can be started on time and smoothly. Students arriving late may face problems.

A major change has been made in the 10th board exam from this year. Now the examination will be conducted twice a year. The second exam is possible between May 15 and June 1. This will give additional opportunity to the students to improve their performance and get better marks.

Strictness regarding subject code and question paper

The board has directed that students should be given only that question paper which is according to the subject and code mentioned in their admit card.

If Mathematics (Standard) is mentioned in the admit card of a student, he/she cannot be given the question paper of Mathematics (Basic).

The same rule will also apply to other subjects including English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, where different codes are prescribed for different courses.

Action will be taken if exam is given on wrong subject

If a student appears in the examination in any subject other than the one recorded in his admit card, he will be considered “absent” in that subject. In such a situation, his examination will be canceled and the result will be prepared on the same basis. CBSE has made it clear that action will also be taken against those schools which do not follow the instructions of the board. The school administration will have to ensure that students are given question papers of the correct subject only, so that a situation like cancellation of the examination does not arise. This strictness of the board has been done with the aim of keeping the examination process transparent and systematic.
