Elina Svitolina defeated Coco Gauff to reach the final in Dubai Championship

Dubai. twoUkraine’s star player Elina Svitolina entered the final by defeating America’s Coco Gough 6-4, 6-7(13), 6-4 on Friday night in the women’s singles semi-finals of the Dubai Championship 2026 being played in Dubai. Now she will face Jessica Pegula in the title match.

Elina Svitolina continued her recent winning streak against world number four Coco Gauff. This is her second consecutive win over Gauff after registering a straight sets win in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open last month. Both players performed brilliantly in this exciting match that lasted for about three hours.

In the first set, two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff was seen struggling with a double fault, taking advantage of which Svitolina won the set 6-4. In the second set, Gauff made a strong comeback and displayed her fighting game and took the match to tiebreak. In a thrilling tiebreak of 15-13, Gauff leveled the match by saving four match points, which gave tremendous enthusiasm to the spectators.

The match was very close in the decisive third set. The ninth game proved crucial, reaching deuce several times. Ultimately, Svitolina maintained her composure to take a 5-4 lead and then held serve to win the match.

After the match, Svitolina said, “I can’t express my feelings in words after such a tough fight. I played every point like there was no tomorrow. It is very special for me to reach the final again. Coco is a big fighter and I was expecting her comeback.”

In the other semi-final, Jessica Pegula defeated her compatriot Amanda Anisimova 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 to reach the final. Now an exciting clash will be seen between Svitolina and Pegula in the title match.
