Danger of attack on Iran increases; America’s military deployment near Tehran
Washington: Now the possibility of attack on Iran at any time has increased manifold. The US Navy’s most powerful and world’s largest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) has been spotted entering the Mediterranean Sea through the Strait of Gibraltar. Passing through the Strait of Gibraltar, this nuclear aircraft carrier entered the Mediterranean Sea.
The incident of this aircraft reaching near Iran is part of America’s military deployment near Tehran. On the orders of US President Trump, it has been deployed to strengthen US forces in the region in case of increasing tensions with Iran and possible military action.
What is the strength of USS Gerald R Ford?
The USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group consists of carriers with guided-missile destroyers such as USS Grete (DDG-72), USS Winston S. Churchill and USS Bainbridge. Pictures taken from Gibraltar by local ship spotters and photographers showed the carrier close to the Moroccan highlands as the ship headed east. The carrier deployed to the Mediterranean Sea before June 2025, then to the Caribbean for Venezuela operations (assisting in the arrest of Nicolás Maduro). Now it has been redirected, moving towards the Middle East.
US’s second dangerous ship already deployed
On the orders of President Donald Trump, Gerald R Ford has been removed from the Southern Command and sent to the Middle East. The USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is already deployed here, which is America’s second most dangerous ship. This creates a rare presence of two carriers in the region, raising fears of air strikes if talks over Iran’s nuclear program fail. Meanwhile, US officials say it is for deterrence and a swift response, while Trump said a “limited strike” is possible if Iran does not sign a new nuclear deal.
Iran is preparing to retaliate
Ford Carrier Air Wing 8 carries more than 75 fighter jets (F-35C, F/A-18E/F), EA-18G Growler and other aircraft. This is the most advanced career in the world. It has electromagnetic catapults, advanced radar and greater aircraft capability. Its deployment has now been over 8 months, which may extend till April, putting immense pressure on the crew. It is part of the US military buildup, which includes dozens of tankers, B-2 bombers and other aircraft. In view of this encirclement by America, Iran has also made counter preparations, but America gives priority to diplomacy. At present the Ford is now in the Mediterranean Sea and could reach the Middle East in a few days, where it could play an important role in the defense of Israel and possible attacks on Iran.
