Paving the way for 153 refugees in Uttarakhand to get Indian citizenship

Dehradun. Under the provisions of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the process of granting Indian citizenship to 153 Hindu refugees living in Uttarakhand has been completed.

After detailed investigation by the Central and State Home Department, the acceptance of their applications has cleared the way for them to be granted Indian citizenship. On Monday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh welcomed the decision and said that through CAA, refugee families living in India for years have got justice.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for this. Of these, 147 people have come from Pakistan and 6 people have come from Afghanistan. All of them fall in the category of applicants who took asylum in India before 31 December 2014.

A total of 189 people from Pakistan had applied for citizenship, out of which 51 applications are still under consideration. According to official sources, till now hundreds of people have been granted citizenship under CAA across the country and the process of applications is going on in various states.
