Commission issues notice to four including McDonald’s MD, actor Ranveer Singh and Kartik Aryan
Jaipur. District Consumer Commission, Jaipur-II has issued notices to McDonald’s MD Rajeev Ranjan, brand ambassador film actor Ranveer Singh and Kartik Aryan along with manager Sambhav Bhardwaj in the matter related to cooking food items in harmful oil in McDonald’s restaurant located at Gaurav Tower in the city.
The Commission has asked them to reply by March 23. Commission Chairman Gyarasi Lal Meena gave this order on the complaint of Gaurav Tiwadi. It is said in the complaint that on February 9, the Food Safety Commissionerate team conducted a surprise inspection of the McDonald’s restaurant.
During inspection, the team found French fries and non-veg food items being prepared in contaminated edible oil. The TPC level of the edible oil that was being used was found to be 28 and 31. Whereas the statutory TPC limit is fixed at 25. According to experts, oil with TPC more than 25 is toxic.
This oil is also a major cause of cancer and heart disease. Despite this, McDonald’s is still selling its product through its misleading advertising. In such a situation, there should be a ban on selling its food items and it should be banned so that such incidents do not recur in future.
It has been requested in the complaint that fifty lakh rupees should be given to the complainant for the mental anguish caused in the case. While hearing on which, the Commission has sought answers from McDonald’s MD and brand ambassador Ranveer Singh and Kartik Aryan and others.
