Make ‘Nation First’ the guiding principle of life: Vice President Radhakrishnan
New Delhi. Vice President and Chancellor of Delhi University CP Radhakrishnan awarded digital degrees to 1,20,408 students at the 102nd convocation of the university on Saturday. He said that degree is not just a certificate but a commitment towards the society and the nation. He called upon the youth to make ‘Nation First’ the guiding principle of life.
In the ceremony organized at the Multipurpose Sports Complex of the University, PhD degrees were also awarded to 734 research scholars, while 132 gold and silver medals and awards were distributed. The Vice President personally presented medals to 10 talented students and also released the ‘Book of Highlights’. Addressing the function, the Vice President mentioned the 104 year long glorious journey of the university.
He said that this institute, which started in the year 1922 with only three colleges, two faculties, eight departments and 750 students, has today established its identity at the global level with 16 faculties, 86 departments, 90 colleges, 20 halls and hostels, more than 30 centers and institutes, 34 libraries and more than six lakh students. Expressing satisfaction over the continuously improving national and international rankings of the university, he said that this is a proof of its academic excellence. He expressed confidence that in the coming years the university will attain a higher position among the leading educational institutions of the world.
The Vice President said that convocation is not just a formal ceremony, but the completion of one phase of life and the beginning of another phase. Today’s graduates are entering a world of new responsibilities at a time when technology, artificial intelligence, climate change and global democratic challenges are transforming the world order. He said, ‘A degree is not just a certificate, but a commitment to serve the society, use one’s skills for the upliftment of the nation and adopt the principle of nation first.’
Presiding over the function, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Yogesh Singh said that the university has maintained its academic commitment by organizing the convocation ceremony every year despite challenges like World War II and Covid-19. He told the students that this country is ours and we have to take care of it.
