UN appeals on US-Israel and Iran conflict, emergency meeting called
New York. Amidst the growing military conflict in the Middle East, Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the US-Israeli military action and Iran’s retaliatory attacks.
Appealing for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation, he warned that if the situation is not brought under control, it could lead to a wider regional conflict, with serious consequences for civilians and regional stability.
The UN Secretary General said in his statement that all parties should immediately return to the negotiating table. He reiterated that peaceful resolution of international disputes is the only viable option and must be consistent with full observance of international law, including the United Nations Charter.
emergency meeting of the security council
At the same time, the United Nations Security Council has decided to call an emergency meeting after the attacks on Iran by America and Israel and retaliation by Tehran. The meeting is scheduled to be held late evening Indian time and will discuss the “situation in the Middle East.”
According to the United Nations, this emergency session has been called at the request of France and Bahrain. Diplomatic sources say that regional peace, safety of civilians and possible further action will be considered in the meeting.
growing anxiety
Analysts believe that if diplomatic initiatives are not taken quickly in the current situation, the conflict could turn into wider regional instability.
The UN appeal is being considered as the first important step in this direction, although military activities on the ground are still continuing. The eyes of the international community are now fixed on the Security Council meeting, where further strategies and possible proposals can be discussed.
