40 days state mourning on Khamenei’s death in Iran, seven days holiday declared

Tehran. 40 days of state mourning and seven days of government holiday have been declared on the death of leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in an air strike by America and Israel on Iran. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB said on Sunday morning that Khamenei was martyred in the attack.

Shortly thereafter, the Iranian Council of Ministers declared a seven-day public holiday and 40 days of state mourning, Iran International reported. Besides, a leadership council (Margdarshak Mandal) consisting of three members has also been announced. According to Irna, this council will play the role of supreme leader for some time.

Under Iran’s constitution, such a council can assume leadership powers until a new supreme leader is elected. Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said that Iran is going to launch the most dangerous attack in the history of the Islamic Republic. This has been confirmed by Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency. The attack will begin in just a few moments, the agency said.
