A week long public holiday has started in Nepal from today.
Kathmandu. A week long public holiday has started in Nepal from today. There will be public holiday for seven consecutive days from today including Holi, House of Representatives elections, International Women’s Day and Saturday.
There is a two-day public holiday on March 2 and 3 to celebrate Holi in the hilly districts of Nepal on Monday and in Terai Madhesh on Tuesday. After this, the government has announced a national holiday of three days due to the voting going on on March 5. National holidays have been declared on March 4, 5 and 6 so that voters can go to their cities and villages to participate in the voting and reach back to their destination.
After this, there is a weekly holiday in Nepal on Saturday, March 7. Similarly, March 8 is also a public holiday in Nepal on the occasion of International Women’s Day. That means today there is a holiday of 7 consecutive days from March 2 to March 8.
Due to elections and Holi, less vehicular movement was seen on the roads of Kathmandu today. Due to the long holiday, this time a large number of people have left for their villages from Kathmandu to celebrate Holi and participate in voting.
It has been told by the Transport Traders Association that about three and a half lakh people have gone from Kathmandu on holiday only through public passenger buses from last Friday till this Monday morning.
He says that around 5 lakh people are expected to leave Kathmandu in Terai Madhesh on Tuesday and Wednesday for Holi and the subsequent two days for voting.
