A layer of filth covers the happiness of Holi, the city is filled with garbage, the administration is in the dock.

Siwan. This time the happiness of Holi has been covered with a layer of filth. The scene seen on the streets of the city just a day before the festival has raised a big question on the working style of the city administration. Angered by not receiving the outstanding salaries, the sanitation workers of the Municipal Council openly revolted and expressed their protest by throwing garbage on the road.

Near DAV Mod and Arya Kanya School of the city, garbage was brought from a handcart, dumped on the road and set on fire. An attempt was made to create a traffic jam by spreading garbage, due to which pedestrians, school children and shopkeepers looked distressed. This situation on the last occasion of the festival is being considered as a slap on the preparations of the administration.

The protesting workers allege that assurances of payment of dues were given repeatedly, but the amount has not yet reached the accounts. His question is simple – how to celebrate Holi with family when your pockets are empty?

The workers have said that if payment is not made soon, the agitation will become more violent. It was even warned that if necessary, the entire city would be forced to celebrate Holi amidst heaps of garbage.

Even after the incident, no quick solution was seen on the spot. Common people are raising questions as to why payment was not ensured before the festival? Was the administration waiting for the situation to worsen?

The big question is, will the district administration handle the situation by releasing the outstanding payments before Holi, or will the city have to celebrate the festival amid bad smell and chaos?

At present the atmosphere in Siwan is hot. The eyes of the public are now fixed on the next action of the administration—because this time the issue is not just about salaries, but also about the reputation of the city and the dignity of the festival.

Meanwhile, Amit Kumar, leader of the Municipal Council Safai Karmachari Union, said that the sanitation workers protesting today belong to an NGO which has got the tender for cleaning.

He said that we also sympathize with these sanitation workers. He said that the salary of all the sanitation workers of the Municipal Council has been given by the department before Holi.
