Report amid speculation – Khamenei’s son Mojtaba Khamenei is alive and completely healthy.
Tehran. Amid ongoing speculation about Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Iranian media has clarified that he is alive and completely healthy.
“Mojtaba Khamenei is completely healthy,” Iran’s Mehr News Agency said in its report. The report also said Mojtaba was reviewing “important issues” related to the country, although details of these issues were not shared.
The Supreme Leader’s second son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has long been seen as a potential successor. According to analysts, his influence is believed to be behind the scenes and his ties are said to be deep with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its volunteer paramilitary wing, the Basij Network.
However, any attempt to transfer power from father to son is considered sensitive in the context of Iran’s political and religious traditions. Hereditary transfer of power is not generally accepted in the Shia religious tradition, especially in a country where the Islamic Revolution ended the monarchy.
There are also challenges in practice, as Mojtaba is neither widely recognized as a high-ranking religious leader nor does he hold any official government position. In the year 2019, America had also imposed sanctions on them.
