Today parliamentary elections in Nepal will be held for 275 seats. Voting will start till 5 pm.

Kathmandu. Voting for parliamentary elections in Nepal will begin at 7 am today. Voting for 275 seats will take place till 5 pm. 165 seats will be filled through direct election and 110 seats will be filled through proportional system. Acting Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission, Ram Prasad Bhandari has appealed to the voters to vote without any fear. Nepal is 15 minutes ahead of India.

This election is being held in Nepal after the Gen-Ji movement last year. There was widespread violence in Nepal during the Gen-Ji movement in September 2025. After this incident, uncertainty had arisen regarding the political direction of the country. After the Gen-Ji movement, the government of the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had fallen. After this Sushila Karki took over the leadership as interim Prime Minister. This government decided to hold elections to restore political stability and take the democratic process forward.

According to the Election Commission of Nepal, more than 1 crore 89 lakh registered voters are eligible to vote in this election. These include approximately 96 lakh 60 thousand men and 92 lakh 40 thousand women. Under the proportional representation system, 3,406 candidates are in the fray, while a list of 3,135 candidates has been released for the proportional representation system.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Bhandari said that under the proportional representation system, counting of votes, which decides the allocation of 110 seats, may take an additional two to three days. If the Commission is successful in adhering to this deadline, it will be a significant change in the history of the country with regard to declaration of election results. During the last general election in Nepal in 2022, it took more than two weeks for the authorities to publish the full and final results.
