America-Israel attack on Iran’s Azadi Sports Complex, indoor arena completely demolished

Tehran. Iran has been shaken by the joint military operation of America and Israel. On the sixth day of the war, America and Israel targeted the world’s most beautiful and prestigious football ground ‘Azadi Sports Complex’ located in Iran’s capital Tehran. In this bombing, its indoor arena with a capacity of 12 thousand seats was completely destroyed.

The Iranian government has condemned the US-Israeli attack on the Azadi Sports Complex, Iran International newspaper reports. Iran has admitted that the 12,000-seat indoor stadium built at that site has suffered heavy damage.

Sports Minister Ahmed Donyamali visited the scene and described the attack as a violation of international law and the Olympic Charter. He appealed to the world to fix accountability. America and Israel have not commented on this claim.

Tehran’s Azadi Sports Complex is the largest and most prestigious sports complex in Iran. The capacity of this football stadium is approximately between 78,000 to 1,00,000.

The indoor arena has been used for volleyball, wrestling, basketball and futsal. The complex also has other facilities. It includes an artificial lake (for rowing and kayaking), swimming centre, velodrome (cycling) and training grounds. It also has historical importance.

It was constructed during the reign of Mohammad Raza Shah to host the 1974 Asian Games. It has hosted several major international tournaments such as the 1976 AFC Asian Cup. At the time of establishment it was originally called ‘Aryamehar Stadium’. After the Iranian Revolution of 1979, it was renamed Azadi Sports Complex.

The Iranian government admitted that the new building and dormitory of the Cycling Federation along with the indoor arena were heavily damaged in the March 5 airstrike. The government has advised people to avoid going to this area. The complex is located near the Ekbatan district in the west of Tehran.

US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth warned Iran that the war has just begun. He warned that even greater combat power was yet to come. He said that the forces of America and Israel will attack many times faster than their current capability. Washington will not stop military operations.
