Indigo flight returned to Delhi amid restrictions in West Asia airspace

New Delhi. Due to increasing tension in West Asia and restrictions on airspace, Indigo flight 6E033 going from Delhi to Manchester had to return midway back to Delhi.

According to Flightradar24 website, IndiGo flight (number 6E033), which took off from Delhi to Manchester on Monday morning, had to turn back mid-air after reaching Ethiopia border amid restrictions in West Asia airspace, causing panic among the passengers. However, all the passengers on board the plane are safe.

IndiGo airline launched its first long-haul flight last year connecting Mumbai and Manchester. After this, direct flights were started between Delhi and Manchester in November. This was IndiGo’s first flight from Delhi to Manchester since February 26. The great circle distance of Delhi-Manchester is 6,829 km and the average flying time is around 11 hours. The aircraft took an unusual southern route via the Gulf of Aden and Africa. After flying for about 7 hours, the plane was turned back due to security reasons near the Ethiopia-Eritrea border.

An IndiGo spokesperson said that due to the changing situation in and around West Asia, some of our flights may have to take longer routes or may have to be diverted. Flight 6E033 from Delhi to Manchester had to return to its origin due to last minute airspace restrictions due to the ongoing situation in West Asia. We are exploring the possibilities of resuming travel.
