All India Football Federation mourns the demise of former general secretary Kushal Das

New Delhi. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has expressed deep condolences on the demise of its former general secretary Kushal Das. Kushal Das died on Friday at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Kushal Das, a chartered accountant by profession, had extensive experience in sports management and administration. In his early professional career he worked with international companies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, GlaxoSmithKline and Shell. In 1996, he joined global sports marketing and television production company IMG as Chief Finance Officer, when the company entered the Indian market. He later also served as the Chief Finance Officer of the Dubai-based International Cricket Council.

In November 2010, Kushal Das took over as the General Secretary of the All India Football Federation and held the post for more than a decade until the year 2022. During his tenure, many important changes took place in Indian football and the development of the game got a new direction.

During his tenure, India successfully hosted the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the year 2017, which is considered a major achievement in the history of Indian football. During this time, women’s football also got a new identity and in the year 2017, the Indian Women’s Football League was started. In the last years of his tenure, India also successfully hosted major international tournaments like the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Asia Cup in the year 2022.

All India Football Federation President Kalyan Choubey said that Kushal Das played an important role in the administration and development of Indian football during his tenure as general secretary. His efforts will always be remembered. He expressed condolences and said that the entire Indian football family stands with his family in this difficult time.

Deputy General Secretary of the federation M. Satyanarayana also expressed grief over his demise, saying that Kushal Das was one of the longest serving general secretaries of the federation and held the post for more than 12 years. During his tenure there were many changes in the administration of Football House and several new departments were established. He said that he had personal contact with Kushal Das and his demise is a big loss for the sports administration. He prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
